Must Read: Countries That Hate America the Most

In 2014, 45% of the population across the 135 countries reviewed approved of the United States, roughly unchanged from the year before. Of major global powers, the United States received the highest median approval rating. While the current public opinion worldwide is relatively positive, especially when compared to the George W. Bush presidency, a majority of residents in 15 of 135 countries did not approve of the current U.S. leadership.
Based on data from The U.S. Global Leadership Project, 82% of Russians did not approve of the job U.S. leadership was doing, the strongest disapproval rating of any other country. More than 81% of survey respondents in Senegal and Kosovo, on the other hand, approved of the United States, both tied for the highest ratings in the world.
5. Pakistan
> Disapproval rating: 65.0%
> GDP per capita: $4,574
> Unemployment rate: 6.2%
> Life expectancy: 66.6 years

According to the U.S. State Department, Pakistan has received well over $4 billion in civilian assistance from the United States from 2009 through 2013. In addition, the country has received about $13 billion from the United States in military aid over the past 13 years. America’s involvement in the country may actually be the problem, however. The United States focused its operations in Pakistan after the 9/11 attacks, and it continues to maintain a strong presence in the country to combat terrorism. Osama Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, and the U.S. mission to kill him may have also increased disapproval among many Pakistanis.
4. Lebanon
> Disapproval rating: 66.0%
> GDP per capita: $16,430
> Unemployment rate: N/A
> Life expectancy: 80.1 years

It is also one of 11 countries where a majority disapprove of the EU leadership, and one of eight countries in which a majority disapprove of Germany’s leadership. Since the end of the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war, Congress has approved more than $1 billion to improve Lebanese security forces’ control over the country and foster economic growth. The U.S. standing among Lebanese respondents improved slightly from 2013, when 71% disapproved of the U.S. Possibly contributing to a longer term U.S. loss of standing in Lebanon is the fact that some members of Congress questioned continued funding of U.S.-sponsored initiatives there. Since the 2012 fiscal year, Congress has placed conditions on annual aid to Lebanon.
3. Belarus

> GDP per capita: $17,623
> Unemployment rate: 0.51%

Further, the U.S. backing of Ukraine after Russia’s annexation of Crimea may have exacerbated ill will towards the U.S. in Belarus, as it did in other countries in the region. The country is still friendly with Russia, as about 62% of Belarus respondents approved Russia’s leadership, up from 46% in 2013 — the largest such increase among countries reviewed. The county’s high opinion of Russia, the country disapproving of the United States the most, may partly explain its similarly poor perception of the United States. Also, poor economic factors may partly account for the poor rating, as economically struggling nations often look upon the U.S. unfavorably, according to Holliday. The country’s inflation rate of 18.1% was the fifth highest among countries reviewed, and the GDP per capita of $17,623 was among the lower figures worldwide.

2. Palestinian Territories

The U.S. government has stated it favors a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. However, perceptions among Palestinian Territories residents will likely not improve as long as the United States is perceived as fully supporting and aiding Israel despite its continued occupation of the Palestinian Territories. Hamas, the effective governing body in the Gaza Strip since 2007, is also considered by the United States and other Western nations to be a terrorist organization.

This was also the worst rating from Russia in the history of the survey. While many Russians do not like America, residents of many other countries do not approve of Russia. The median disapproval rating of Russian leadership was greater than the median approval rating, the only country to claim this distinction. And while a majority of residents in 15 countries disapprove of the U.S., a majority of residents in 42 countries disapprove of Russia’s leadership. Russia’s disapproval rating of U.S. leadership worsened considerably from 2013, increasing 12 percentage points. Recently implemented U.S.-led Western sanctions on Russia have likely intensified Russians’ disapproval. According to historical data from the Levada Center, Russia’s independent public opinion tracker, negative attitudes towards the United States spiked during the invasion of Iraq and worsened again in 2008 after the Russia-Georgia conflict. More recently, the U.S. sided with Ukraine after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

Must Read: 10 reasons why you are still poor

1. You buy everything your neighbors and friends have

Trying to impress your neighbors and friends by buying all the stuff they have plus everything they would like to have? Don’t do it – spending money on things that you really have no need for is the number 1 reason why people have less money than they want to. Having a lot of things and having a lot of money are 2 things that contradict each other – you need to give money away in order to get stuff.
True wealth and money comes to those who are willing to wait – the 1000 dollars you choose not to spend on a new plasma TV with a giant screen can turn into 100 000 dollars in 20 years. Think of how much TV-s this money would get you then (as opposed to how much you would get when selling your TV after 20 years).

2. You are impatient

You want to have everything now and are not willing to wait in order to buy it later. The concept of saving money for something you want to buy is not known to you – instead you use one of your many credit cards.
You probably haven’t heard that using a credit card makes other people rich (owners of credit companies) and keeps you poor.

3. You have bad habits

You smoke, drink and watch TV all day long. You spend money on the things that will never bring you anything back. In the long run you need to spend even more money on health in order to get back to your best drinking shape!
A bad and devastating habit can also be negative thinking. Research has shown that people who are more willing to keep their mind open and positive to new ideas are wealthier than pessimists.

4. Your goals suck

You don’t have any goals and even if you have one – its awful.
Just about every 10-year-old wants to be rich and famous but only a few will actually get there.
You need a goal that says what you want to achieve, how you are going to achieve it and by what time will it be achieved.
After coming up with a goal you will also need to make a plan on how to achieve it. You must be able to measure your progress at any point to get feedback on how you are doing.

5. You don’t have an emergency fund

You spend everything you make and don’t keep an emergency fund for unexpected things. If you are not covered by insurance an accident can set you back tens of thousands of dollars.
Without an emergency fund you would need to borrow to come up with the money. This also means that you will have to pay interest – not having an emergency fund can end up loosing you a lot of money.

6. You want too much too fast

You want to get a lot of money fast and with little or no effort. This makes you go along with tens of get rich quick schemes that always end up losing money.  Your decisions are affected by the need to get a lot of money fast, which makes you take unnecessary and stupid risks.
You need to remember that there is no such thing as easy money.

7. You hope that other people will take care of your money

You give professional money managers free will to take care of your money as they wish. Everyone wants to have more money so they will just end up making a lot of “necessary transactions” – of course you are the one paying the transaction fees.
Take care of your own money – always have the last say in what to invest and what to buy.

8. You invest in what you don’t know

After reading a story about a new high tech invention you decide to invest all your money into this startup company. If it’s high tech and complicated it must be a great invention, right?
Wrong!
Investing your money in what you don’t understand is the fastest way to losing everything. Something that looks like a good idea doesn’t have to be one. Stick to what you know and you will be able to keep yourself from the dumb ideas and go along with the great ones.

9. You are afraid to lose your money

You are so afraid to lose your money that you keep it in an ordinary bank account with a terribly small interest rate. You are afraid to invest your money because you think that the risk of losing everything is too great.
By keeping your money on a savings account, it generates less interest than the inflation. This means that by keeping your money in a safe place you are actually losing it to inflation.

10. You are not interested in money

You think that when you make enough money at work all your money related problems will take care of themselves
Actually the opposite is true – over 90% of people winning a multi million dollar lottery end up with less money just after 5 years of winning.
Getting rich takes effort and planning. If you are not interested in money then chances are that money is not interested in you.

RELATIONSHIP: How to Survive a Relationship With an Addict

How to Survive a Relationship With an Addict

When one member of a couple is an addict, it can take a real toll on the relationship. Still, divorce or separation isn’t the inevitable result of loving someone who struggles with addiction. If you love that person, it’s important that he or she gets help.
How to Survive a Relationship With an Addict
But you also need to know how to cope with a loved one’s addiction, to protect your own mental health, and avoid making mistakes that could worsen the whole situation. You need to know how to avoid enabling your partner’s addiction, while being realistic about the situation, standing firm against manipulation, and taking steps to make sure your own physical, emotional, and psychological needs are met.
Don’t Be an Enabler
If you’re taking steps to protect the addict in your life from the consequences of his or her behavior, then you’re being an enabler. Enablers generally mean well when they start taking on the responsibilities of an addicted loved one or doing other things to protect him or her from the consequences of his or her drug or alcohol use. A partner who enables may fix things the addict broke while under the influence, clean up the addict’s vomit, help the intoxicated addict into bed, make excuses to the addict’s boss, take on the addict’s commitments, or bail the addict out of jail. Protecting an addict from the consequences of his or her behavior in this way only allows the addict to continue living in denial, without seeing the true effect substance abuse is having on his or her life.
When you stop enabling, the addict is forced to face the real consequences of his or her actions. It can be scary to stop enabling someone important in your life; you don’t know if the person will end up checking into a rehab center or elsewhere, or if the worst will happen instead. But it’s a risk you have to take, because an addict needs to face his or her own behavior in order to change.
Accept That You Can’t Fix the Addict or the Addiction
Neither you nor your loved one has any control over the addiction. You cannot single-handedly fix the other person. You cannot love, nag, or coddle a person out of addiction. You cannot control your addicted partner’s behaviors. You can only control yourself, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll stop trying to control an addict who cannot be controlled.
How to Survive a Relationship With an Addict 1
Be Realistic
Addiction is a chronic disease with a high relapse rate. If your loved one does not get help, you may need to leave the relationship. Even if your loved one does get help, the road to recovery can be a long one, and relapse is always a possibility.
Remember to set boundaries with your partner and support him or her in a life of sobriety. Even one instance of substance abuse can send an addict spiraling back into a full-relapse, so you’ll need to remain vigilant even after your loved one is sober.
Don’t Let Yourself Be Manipulated
Addicts are expert manipulators, and your partner will try to use his or her skills at manipulation to get you to give in to all of his or her demands. Your significant other may resort to lying, cheating, guilt-tripping, raging, or blaming when you refuse to acquiesce to his or her demands, but that’s just because he or she is panicking at the prospect of having to stop addictive behaviors.
Giving in to the addict will only make the manipulation worse. Stand your ground, and your addicted partner will soon realize that he or she is not going to get his or her way and will give up trying to manipulate you.
Put Yourself First
Putting yourself first doesn’t mean being selfish. You can’t help anyone if you’re emotionally, psychologically, and physically depleted. While wanting to be there for your addicted partner is noble, you should make sure your own needs are met before you turn your attention to meeting your partner’s needs. Get plenty of sleep, eat right, and exercise regularly. Make time for your friends and other loved ones, as well as for hobbies and activities you enjoy. You are the only person responsible for meeting your needs, so if you don’t do it, no one else will.
It’s never easy to be in a relationship with an addict. Even after the addicted person gets help, it can take a long time and a lot of work to heal your relationship with the person. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth it. As long as you’re realistic and approach the relationship with a healthy sense of boundaries, you can repair the damage addiction has done to your partnership.

HOT GIST: Meet Woman Who’s Been Happily Married To 2 Cats (pics)

People love their pets, but few love them in a manner that is giddily
reported on by the British tabloids.
“Barbarella Buchner: Woman celebrates 10-year anniversary after
MARRYING her two pet cats” reads a headline that ran last week in the
Mirror U.K. — and which Buchner tells The Huffington Post is mostly
accurate.
“They are two tabby brothers, Lugosi and Spider, who are now 15 years
old, and they are the loves of my life,” she says. “But actually, it’s 11
years this January, not 10.”

Indeed, on Jan. 9, 2004, Buchner married her two cats.
She’d adopted the pair from a London animal shelter in 2000. Four
years later, after a breakup with a long-term human companion,
Buchner realized the kitties were her “soul mates.” “They’re the loves
of my life,” she told The Mirror.
And with that, Buchner decided to make it official — or as official as a
human/two-cat marriage can be: She ordered a marriage certificate
from a website that (tongue-in-cheekly) facilitates interspecies nuptials.
“It it was all done online. No ceremony, no wacky outfits,” she says. “I
did, however, tell Lugosi and Spider before marrying them, that I was
going to do it. Bribed with a tin of tuna, they didn’t object.”
Now living on the Spanish island of Lanzarote with her furry husbands
— as well as another kitty named Ruby Akasha, “a ginger female whom
I am not married to,” she says — the 48-year-old web designer,
photographer, musician and self-described “Mad Cat Lady” says she is
happy, with her feline family. “I like my life as it is,” she says.
The Huffington Post recently caught up with Buchner by email, to find
out more about what that surprisingly normal life is like:
The Huffington Post: What does it mean to be married to cats? Do you
consider the marriage to be similar to the relationship you’d have with
a human spouse?
Barbarella Buchner: I can’t really say from experience since I have
never been married to a human, even though I lived with one for seven
years. But I’m sure its not the same at all.
First of all, the marriage to my cats is for fun only and not legal or
recognized in any country in the world. And secondly, something which
is rather obvious, they are cats, and hence, for example, they won’t
engage me in philosophical conversations, or help me with the
shopping, clean their own toilet or go to work.
They are my animal companions and not my boyfriends. What most
people cannot understand though is that the love I feel for them can be,
and is, just as deep as what one can feel for another human.
Is there a sexual component to your marriage with the cats?
No! Even entertaining such a thought is just too disgusting!
In human terms, the word “marriage” implies that there will (usually) be
sex involved, but we’re not talking human terms here. I always get the
“ooh, those cat tongues must feel really good” kind of comments, but
that’s just too gross to even consider.
We all know that there are people out there in this world who have sex
with animals, but seriously, I’m not one of them and even the thought
of that makes me ill. There are two major taboos in my view, and that’s
sex with animals and sex with children.
I am totally and utterly in love with my cats, but it is simply a pure,
spiritual, unconditional love, like a love you would have for a young
child. In a way, they are my children, my little babies, and not just my
companions.
How did you celebrate your anniversary?
Quietly, at home, with tins of tuna for the cats.
Can you tell me what a typical day is like in your household?
Most mornings I get woken up by Lugosi, who demands his breakfast.
This can be at 5 a.m. or 7 a.m., or sometimes this cat servant is even
permitted to sleep in til 8 a.m.!
Once I’ve had my cup of coffee and the cats have had their breakfast,
we go outside for a walk. They are indoor-only cats and always have
been, but we have supervised outings two or three times a day for about
15 minutes. We live in a very safe pedestrian alley with no traffic and
high walls on either side, so they are safe to walk around without a
harness or leash.
Ruby, my third cat, is a bit of a bully and always loves to chase the
other cats in the alley, whereas Lugosi simply lounges around on the
stairs, and Spider enjoys chasing leaves blown about by the wind.
I work from home as a web designer, so once we are back inside, I start
work, and the cats tend to go asleep (what a life, eh?!).
When I need a break from work, I tend to do chores, go out shopping, or
meet up with a friend for lunch. After that it’s back to work, cuddle
cats, feed cats, clean their kitty loos — they have two — and sometimes
I take a catnap myself, if I have the time or feel tired.
Late afternoon we go on another supervised outing, and then one more
at about 10 pm –- they are always in their element when it’s dark
outside!
When I go out to a pub or restaurant or event in the evenings, I leave
the cats indoors to their own devices. This is something I like as a cat
person. If I had a dog, I would feel guilty every time I went out because
dogs need the company of their master as much as possible.
I always feel so sorry for other people’s dogs who are left inside the
house for hours on end when they go out, and I can hear the poor dog
crying and howling the whole time. They are just not meant to be
treated like that, and in my view, this borders on animal cruelty.
How is being married to cats different from being a regular old devoted
cat owner?
Let’s get something straight first. Anybody who has a cat knows that
there is no such thing as a “cat owner”! When you share your life with a
cat, it’s you that’s being owned and you are the one that will serve the
cat and cater to its every whim.
If you’re not happy with that, you need to get a dog!
I know many devoted cat owners who treat their cats exactly the same
way as I do mine — i.e. spoil them rotten — but they wouldn’t go as far
as marrying them. I don’t think there is much of a difference though;
just like most people these days are “living in sin’ and are not married,
doesn’t mean there is much of a difference in their actual relationship
and the way they would treat or love each other.
Do you think your cats feel married to you?
Ha ha, no, I’m sure they don’t know what it all means. What I am sure
about though is that they must feel and know that I love them and I’m
the one that feeds them and cleans their kitty loo!
How do your friends and family react to your marriage and the
publicity surrounding your marriage?
I am a functioning member of society, someone who is working, has a
mortgage, has real-life friendships, and who goes out and does
everyday things like shopping, taking walks on the beach, going to bars
and restaurants, and doing photography.
Ok, so I am a bit eccentric, but I don’t see anything wrong with that! I
am not hurting anyone being the way I am. Being different is good, and
I think if I ever turned “normal”, I would have to ask someone to put me
out of my misery!
In my opinion, the media always portrays things in a slightly (or
sometimes totally) different way of what things are really like. The Sun
newspaper, for example, wrote in their printed version “Bride Barbarella
wore a dress with cats on it and knelt next to her pets as she said her
vows” and “the trio celebrated with a honeymoon in Lanzarote.” Even
though I found what they wrote very amusing, I never actually said or
did any of this, and the Sun Newspaper totally made all of that up.
Stuff like that, sadly, will portray anyone as a total nutcase, when the
reality of it is very different.
I certainly am not the stereotypical cat lady, whose house stinks of cat
pee, who hoards 20 or more cats, whose hair is disheveled, who wears
tatty clothes and has problems relating to people in real life and reality
as a whole.
So, to get back to the question: my friends and family already think I’m
mad, and marrying my cats simply proved that point to them again.
Have you gotten to know other people who are married to animals?
No, not in real life, but I have read things about other people online who
got married to their beloved animals. Total wackos, in my humble
opinion. Oops, hang on. I’m one of them! LOL.
Is there anything else you’d like readers to know about you?
I run the website for our local [cat] charity called “9 Lives Lanzarote.”
They work very hard with few volunteers and never enough funds to try
and control the overpopulation of feral cats on our little island. They
also set up “cat cafés” — communal feeding stations — in many
Lanzarote hotels so that holidaymakers are discouraged from feeding
the cats, who would, once the tourists have left again, go hungry
afterwards.
9 Lives Lanzarote receive no funds from local councils or the Spanish
government and rely heavily on private donations, so if you would like
to chip in, you can do so at www.9liveslanzarote.com.
Do you have romantic or sexual relationships outside your marriage?
Not currently, and I’m not planning anything. But hey, if the universe
has got something in store for me, then I’ll find out soon enough!
This interview has been edited for length.

MUST READ: HOW TO SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS IN 2015

After all the New Years Eve festivities
are over, 2015 will finally be here.
Doesn’t it seem like the new year
always comes right when we need it
most? As exciting as this is, it can also
bring out some unwanted anxieties
over how we want the next year to go.
It’s specifically hard for those wishing
for change! But it’s important to go
into the new year with a fresh, yet
realistic outlook. Read my advice
below on how to set yourself up for
success in the new year, and
remember – you can’t control
everything, but you can make this
your best year yet!
First things first, success doesn’t
happen over night . You have a whole
new year ahead waiting to be filled
with experiences and adventures. But
don’t think that just because it’s a new
calendar year, everything you wish for
in 2015 will automatically be there.
You’ll have to work for everything you
want, but if you know this now, you’re
already in a good place come January.
It’s never too late to check off those
resolutions . Resolutions can be
beneficial in motivating us to go
further, but they’re not as easy as they
look. Just remember that if you skip a
few workouts or don’t get straight A’s
winter quarter, it’s not over. There’s
always time to be your best self! Don’t
let the boxes on the calendar mess
that up.
That said, once you start working
toward your goals for the year, keep
in mind that everyone’s idea of
success is different . There are things
that every successful woman should
know , but in the end everyone’s idea
of “having it all” varies. Don’t let
someone else’s vision of success force
you to stray from the path you worked
to be on. Carve your own path and
you’ll always be heading in the right
direction.
Take some time to think about what
you want out of 2015 this week.
Maybe even have some resolutions in
mind, if that’s something that helps
keep you in check. When January 1 st
hits this Thursday, we’ll all be
cheering for this new chapter and
ready to take on 365 NEW days! Be
sure to check back here because I’m
writing a post on sticking to those
resolutions, too.
What would make 2015 YOUR best
year yet? Tell us in the comments!
